Academy Program is designed for U8 - U10 players as a bridge between the Recreational Program and the Classic Program. It is ideal for the young player who has taken particular interest in the sport of soccer and appears to be ready for a higher level of training as well as increased expectations. Yet, the Academy Program remains primarily focused on individual player development; emphasis on team results (winning) remains secondary. No records are kept and scores from matches are not recorded.
Age Group Pools, Expectations and Coaching
Like the Classic Program, the Academy Program expects increased commitment from its players in time and effort and players are trained by CASA’s qualified coaching staff. However, Academy differs from Classic and Recreation in that players train as age group pools and play small-sided matches (5v5) (7 v 7) or (9 v 9). Age group pools allow players to train and compete with different combinations of players, orchestrating competitive environments to benefit the growth and development of everyone involved. Small-sided matches allow for maximum touches during a game - players have to become involved in the play.
Training and Matches
Academy players train 2-3 times a week for 1.25 - 1.5 hours per session with emphasis on technical skills and introducing tactical concepts. Games are typically played at events called “Festivals” during which players will play in 2-3 games against teams from different clubs.
Joining the Academy Program:
During the offseason CASA will host Academy Assessment days. While not tryouts, these days are meant for coaches to evaluate player skill and provide candid feedback to that players guardian as to whether Academy is a good fit for their player.
